What actually sets the price
A 3D printing quote is mostly about how much material the printer lays down and how long the machine is busy. At Tynmas Labs we price on four inputs.
- Weight of material: a heavier part uses more filament and more machine time.
- Material type: PLA is the most affordable, engineering materials like Nylon-CF cost more per gram.
- Quantity: each print carries a small setup cost, so batches bring the unit price down.
- Finishing: sanding, priming and painting add labour on top of printing.
Worked examples in KES
These examples use the same rates as the instant estimator on our quote page: a per-gram material rate plus a KES 350 setup fee per part. Your confirmed quote may differ slightly once we have looked at the file.
| Part | Material | Approx. weight | Estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keychain or small clip | PLA | 20 g | KES 480 |
| Electronics enclosure | PETG | 120 g | KES 1,310 |
| Desk organiser | PLA | 250 g | KES 1,975 |
| Load-bearing bracket | Nylon-CF | 60 g | KES 1,670 |
Five ways to make your print cheaper
- Choose PLA unless you need heat, impact or flex resistance.
- Hollow out decorative parts or ask us to reduce infill.
- Print several copies at once to spread the setup cost.
- Skip painting when a coloured filament will do.
- Send a clean, print-ready file. File repair takes time.
If you are unsure which material you need, pick "Not sure, advise me" on the quote form. We will recommend the cheapest option that will do the job.
